King's Ely (renamed from "The King's School" in March 2012) [1] [2] is a cathedral school and now an all through co-educational fee-charging day and boarding school in the city of Ely in England. It was founded in 970 AD, making it one of the oldest schools in the world .

In 1158 or 1159 Nigel, Bishop of Ely, paid Henry II to appoint his natural son, Richard FitzNeal, as the king's treasurer. [1] [2] Richard was the great nephew of Roger, Bishop of Salisbury, who had organized the exchequer under Henry I, when it was separated from the Chamberlain's office in the king's household.

Later that year, local public school, King's Ely took over the lease from Sue Ryder Care and refurbished [3] the palace to become the school new sixth form centre. It was opened by the Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester on Friday 25 January 2013.
