The city is bounded by Maple Heights to the north and west, Walton Hills and Oakwood to the south, and Bedford Heights to the east. According to the 2010 census, the city has a total area of 5.40 square miles (14.0 km 2 ), of which 5.35 square miles (13.9 km 2 ) (or 99.07%) is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 km 2 ) (or 0.93%) is water.
Bedford Township was organized in 1825. [4] Many of its first settlers were natives of Bedford County, Pennsylvania, hence the name. [5] Statewide, the only other Bedford Township is located in Meigs County. [6]

A post office called Bear Creek was established in 1871, the name was changed to Bearcreek in 1895, and the post office closed in 1904. [2] The community takes its name from nearby Bear Creek. References
