RBVZ-6 engines remained in service into the 1920s. Four RBVZ-6 engines powered the last airworthy Ilya Muromets which crashed into a cabbage field in July 1922. [2]
After successful performance on a test stand and high-level agreements between the US government and the Russian government, the engines were imported to the US for use on the Lockheed Martin Atlas III, which flew from 2000 to 2005. The engine has been used since 2002 on the United Launch Alliance Atlas V, the successor to the Atlas III. [5]
