A post office called Chevrolet was established in 1918, and remained in operation until 1992. [3] The community was named after the Chevrolet Series 490, the first car seen on local roads. [4] A 1935 newspaper account reported the town had 800 inhabitants, and about 60 cars, 30 of which were Chevrolets. [5]

Murray is a home rule-class city [4] in Calloway County, Kentucky, United States. It is the seat of Calloway County [5] and the 19th-largest city in Kentucky. [6] The city's population was 17,307 during the 2020 U.S. census, [7] and its micropolitan area's population is 37,191. Murray is a college town and is the home of Murray State University.
The original seal also contained the future state motto. It served as the state's only emblem for over 130 years until the adoption of the state bird in 1926. Enacted by law in 2010, the newest symbols of Kentucky are the state insect, the honey bee, and the state sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette.
