Giant Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (commonly known as Giant) is a Taiwanese bicycle manufacturer, recognized as the world's largest bicycle designer and manufacturer. [1] [3] Giant has manufacturing facilities in Taiwan, the Netherlands, China and Hungary. They have future plans for Vietnam to be the fifth location.
King Liu (Chinese: 劉金標; born 2 July 1934) is the founder of Taiwanese bicycle manufacturer Giant Bicycles. Liu was not a cyclist himself before founding Giant. [ 1 ] However, in 2007, at age 73, he rode around Taiwan on a bicycle, [ 2 ] and at age 75 he rode from Beijing to Shanghai .
The bikes can be unlocked with an app, although in 2018 there were reports that the app frequently crashed. [3] It has also been reported that there are not enough e-bikes available. [ 2 ] As of December 2020, there are 600 conventional and e-bikes in operation, with a further 700 e-bikes to be added in the first quarter of 2021.
The bicycles are produced by several manufacturers in Asia and Europe. In 2010, a small part of the assembly process was relocated to France. The 2021 Volta a Portugal (known as the 2021 Volta a Portugal em Bicicleta Santander for sponsorship reasons [1]) was the 82nd edition of the Volta a Portugal road cycling stage race (not counting 2020 Volta a Portugal Edição Especial), which was held from 4 to 15 August 2021. [2] [3] It was a 2.1 event on the 2021 UCI Europe Tour calendar. [4]
