Asia Masters Athletics (AMA) is one of six continental based regional affiliates of World Masters Athletics (WMA), the global governing body for the division of Masters Athletics. The current president of the organization is Mr. Viwat Vigrantanoros, who represents the Sports Authority of Thailand.
WMA is the global governing body for the division of Masters athletics. [1] It is held in opposite years from the World Masters Athletics Championships. The event also hosts the Asia Masters General Assembly, the political gathering of the AMA which selects the locations of subsequent championships. [2] [3]
The Asian Championships in Athletics is a quadrennial event which began in 1973. Asian Athletics Association accepts only athletes who are representing one of the organisation's Asian member states and the body recognises records set at editions of the Asian Athletics Championships.

The competition courted controversy with the IAAF when political in-fighting arose after Israel was excluded from participation in 1977. That edition of the competition was canceled, with championships between 1979 and 1989 being regarded by the IAAF as unofficial, called the "Asian Track and Field Meeting" as a result.
