Robert William Hannah (born September 26, 1956) is an American former professional motocross racer. [1] He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1975 to 1989, most notably as a member of the Yamaha factory racing team.
A 125 cc class was added in 1974. As motocross technology developed, 500 cc two-stroke motocross bikes became too powerful for the average rider and, faced with diminishing numbers of competitors, the AMA discontinued the 500 cc class after the 1993 season. A women's national championship series was introduced in 1996. [6]
The "Powder Puff" was a motocross event where women could race in heats in order to qualify for the main event, or the last race of the night with the chance to win the championship. [8] In 1975 the event's name was changed from the Powder Puff National Championship to the Women's Motocross Nationals.
