The Coca-Cola Bottling Plant is a historic manufacturing facility in the Evanston neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. Constructed in the 1930s in high Streamline Moderne style, it no longer produces beverages, but has been named a historic site.
In 1998, Cameron Coca-Cola Bottling was purchased by Coca-Cola Enterprises, the largest Coke bottling company in the world. [5] The deal, which coincided with the purchase of five other Coke bottlers, was part of a play by Coca-Cola Enterprises to consolidate Coke's distribution chain amid the Cola Wars against Pepsi. [5]
In the mid-1970s, the plant was bought by the Dayton Coca-Cola Bottling Company. The increased demand for Coke products in two-liter plastic bottles and cans made the aging local plant obsolete; it was closed down and razed by the end of the decade. A newer bottling plant was constructed in Huber Heights.
For bottle-to-bottle recycling, the bottles have to be decontaminated which was achieved by introducing "super-clean recycling processes," which in the US was done for the first time in 1991. [5] These processes clean "recycled PET flakes to contamination levels similar to virgin PET pellets," so that they can be reused as beverage containers. [5]
