Rutherford County was formed in 1803 from parts of Davidson, Williamson and Wilson counties, [1] and named in honor of Griffith Rutherford (1721–1805). [7] Rutherford was a North Carolina colonial legislator and an American Revolutionary War general, who settled in Middle Tennessee after the Revolution.
Walterhill, also known as Walter Hill, is a census-designated place (CDP) in Rutherford County, Tennessee.The population was 401 at the 2010 census. [5]Walterhill is the site of the 34-acre (140,000 m 2) Walterhill Floodplain State Natural Area, established to support a rare plant species found in the Stones River floodplain, the Stones River bladderpod (Paysonia stonensis).
