The Cottesloe Road District was created on 4 October 1895 and was granted municipal status as the Municipality of Cottesloe on 20 September 1907. In 1950 it bought Overton Lodge from Claude de Bernales and renamed it to the Cottesloe Memorial Town Hall and Civic Centre. [ 2 ]
[citation needed] It includes the administration centre for the Town of Cottesloe, the War Memorial Town Hall and extensive walled and landscaped grounds with tall Norfolk Island pines. The Laurels [clarification needed] was originally built in 1897–1898 for Richard Pennefather. It was an elegant example of the Federation Queen Anne style.

The Town of Cottesloe in Perth, Western Australia was originally established on 4 October 1895 as a road board with a chairman and councillors under the District Roads Act 1871. On 20 September 1907, it was proclaimed a municipality, with a mayor and councillors, under the Municipal Corporations Act 1906.
