Habanos S.A. is a Cuban manufacturing company of tobacco that controls the promotion, distribution, and export of premium cigars and other tobacco products for Cuba worldwide. It was established in 1994. [2] Ownership of Habanos S.A. is split equally between state-owned Cubatabaco and privately held Spanish-based tobacco giant Altadis. [2]
Through its international holdings, including ownership of the former Consolidated Cigar Holdings and half ownership of the Cuban state tobacco monopoly, Habanos S.A., Altadis was the largest producer of mass market and premium cigars in the world, as well as the fourth largest producer of tobacco products.
The 80th anniversary of the Montecristo brand was celebrated in March 2015 at the VII Festival del Habano. Habanos SA revealed the Montecristo 80 Anniversario at the festival. This exclusive cigar comes in a simple, polished, dark-brown box that contains 20 cigars. Only 30,000 boxes are being produced. It was released in August 2016. [9]
Por Larrañaga (meaning by Larrañaga) is the name of a cigar brand produced in Cuba for Habanos S.A., the Cuban state-owned tobacco company, as well as a non-Cuban line of cigars produced in the Dominican Republic and Honduras for Altadis, a subsidiary of Imperial Brands. Por Larrañaga cigars have been in continuous production in Cuba since 1834.

Cohiba (an Indigenous Cuban word for "tobacco" [1] [2]) is a Cuban brand of cigarettes created by Habanos S.A. They are currently manufactured by the French-Spanish company Altadis, a subsidiary of Imperial Brands. Since 2003, "Brascuba Cigarrillos" has produced the brand in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Russia.
From 1960 until 1992, the brand was marketed exclusively in the UK market by NR Silverstone Cigar Ltd. [7] In 1993, Habanos S.A. began exporting the brand worldwide. [citation needed] In the US, the Saint Luis Rey trademark was registered by Altadis. In 2008, Altadis was acquired by Imperial Tobacco. [citation needed]
In 2007, Habanos released a new line of maduro-wrapped Cohibas, called "Maduro 5," in three sizes. The Cuban Cohiba brand also carries two machine-made extensions cigarillos: the Mini and the Club. Habanos SA have used their Cohiba brand name for non-cigar products, manufacturing Cohiba cigarettes since 1987 and Extra Cohiba Cognac since 1999.
