The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA / ˈ m ɑːr t ə /) is the principal public transport operator in the Atlanta metropolitan area.Formed in 1971 as strictly a bus system, MARTA operates a network of bus routes linked to a rapid transit system consisting of 48 miles (77 km) of rail track with 38 subway stations.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Atlanta, train headways were reduced to 15 minute intervals between trains during most weekday hours and 20 minutes at other times. [14] In August 2023, MARTA announced that frequencies would increase to every 12 minutes on all rail lines between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Clayton County commuter rail was a proposed commuter rail line traversing Clayton County, Georgia and connecting with the MARTA rapid transit system at East Point station. After Clayton County joined the MARTA system in 2014, MARTA began studying alternatives for high-capacity transit through the county.
On June 8, 1996, MARTA added a new branch of the North-South Line, with stations at Buckhead, Medical Center, and Dunwoody. [1] To distinguish the two lines, the line to Dunwoody assumed the North-South Rail Line name, [3] [4] while the line to Doraville became the Northeast-South Rail Line [5] (sometimes known as the Northeast Line for short). The Southern Railway operated this line heading west toward Birmingham, Alabama. The line continues to be used today for Amtrak's Crescent. Into the mid-1960s, the line had local service provided by the Frisco/Southern joint Kansas City-Florida Special and the Southern's #11/#12 train. [16]
The Silver Comet, The Cherry Blossoms, and The Capitol were Seaboard Air Line passenger trains that ran over the line on their route from the Northeast to Atlanta and Birmingham. [8] Chart B was part of the Abbeville Subdivision when it was operated by the Seaboard Coast Line. [2] CSX abandoned track the line's connection to Birmingham in 1988.
West Lake is an at-grade metro station in Atlanta, Georgia, serving the Blue Line of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. It serves the area near Westview Cemetery and parts of West Atlanta. The station is located between West Lake & Anderson Avenues in West Atlanta.
