Downers Grove Township is one of nine townships in DuPage County, Illinois, US. As of the 2020 census, its population was 149,921 and it contained 61,933 housing units. [ 2 ] It is the largest township in the county, both in terms of area and population.
Downers Grove was founded in 1832 by Pierce Downer, [5] a farmer who traveled to Illinois from Rutland, New York, but was originally from Vermont. [6] Downers Grove was named for a lush grove of old-growth bur oak trees surrounding the village, which stood out from the local savanna landscape. [7]

As of 2018, Downers Grove Main Street is the sixth busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 2,492 weekday boardings. [1] The local police department and library are nearby.
