The firm came into existence after its predecessor Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co was split into two after a dispute emerged between the two managing partners of firm who were heading the Delhi and Mumbai office separately.

Mangaldas was born in Bangalore, India. [2] Her father is an architect and her mother is an interior designer and photographer. [3] She grew up in Goa and attended high school in Kodaikanal. [3] She studied English literature and visual art at Columbia University in New York, including in classes taught by Gauri Viswanathan, and graduated in 2011.
Cyril was born the son of Suresh Amarchand Shroff, a former managing partner of Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co. His grandfather started the firm in partnership with Mangaldas Mehta in 1917. Shroff was admitted to the Bar in 1982 after receiving his BA, LLB degree from the Government Law College, Mumbai. [2]
