US 322 Bus. was signed as US 322 until 1981, when the Mount Nittany Expressway, a freeway bypass of US 322, was built north of State College. [2] [3]US 322 Bus. now serves as the main east–west thoroughfare in State College, and the section in State College is named Atherton Street in honor of George W. Atherton, former president of the Pennsylvania State University.

The newspaper was founded on May 12, 1898, as the weekly State College Times. [3] In 1901, the paper changed ownership and The Times Printing & Publishing Company was formed. Two years later, the company name was changed to Nittany Printing & Publishing. The Aikens family, led by Dr. Charles T. Aikens, acquired the paper in 1914.
Atherton Hall. South Halls offers housing for Schreyer Honors College students in Atherton and Simmons, and in addition offers male, female and co-ed residence halls.
