The Durward G. Hall Federal Building and United States Courthouse is an historic building located in Joplin, Missouri.Completed in 1904 and added to in 1936, the courthouse was constructed during a time of initial growth for the City of Joplin, following several years of civic effort to obtain a Federal Post Office and Courthouse.
Located in the district is the previously listed Joplin Supply Company. Other notable buildings include the U. S. Court House and Post Office (1904), Cosgrove Building (1913), Independent Building (c. 1910), Hurlbut Chapel (c. 1920), and Crown/Greyhound Bus depot (1936). [2] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. [1]

Mitchell Hall (opened in 1987) is named after Grace Clayton Mitchell (1920–2006), a longtime English professor at what was first Joplin Junior College and later Missouri Southern State College. She first taught at the school in 1946 and after taking a break from teaching returned in 1958 and remained until retiring in 1981.
Eventually Hugh and Lee Anne Howsman purchased the building to house their Howsman's Office Supply and Furniture Co. [9] Over time Howsman's business plan changed and in 2006 they sold the building to the Matt Miller Co. of Springfield, Missouri, [10] who redeveloped the upper stories into lofts and restored the main floor into an events space.
