The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC; French: Commission électrotechnique internationale) is an international standards organization [3] [4] that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies – collectively known as "electrotechnology".
Electrical safety standard set forward by standards organizations across the globe such as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), [5] Canadian Standards Association, [6] and European Commission in IEC60601-1. MOPP safety standards aim to set basic safety requirements for medical electrical equipment.
CISPR is the acronym of Comité International Spécial des Perturbations Radio, [1] or the International Special Committee for Radio Protection of IEC. In 2005, the third edition of IEC 60601-1 was published. It was the result of a comprehensive review of the second edition (dating from 1988). Some key changes are: the outline and the numbering scheme of the clauses and subclauses were changed, risk management was made much more relevant and the concept of essential performance was added.
It is developed by the IEC Technical Committee 1 (Terminology), and published as both the IEC 60050 series of standards and online as the Electropedia. The Electropedia database contains English and French definitions for more than 22 000 concepts, and provides terms in up to 18 other languages.
According to DIN EN 61140:2016 chapter 4.2 Table 1 (German version of EU standard EN 61140), Extra Low Voltage (≤ 50 V a.c. or ≤ 120 V d.c.) is defined as a sub-category of Low voltage (≤ 1000 V a.c. or ≤ 1500 V d.c.). This is similar to the definition provided in IEC 61140:2016. [7]
