St Helier (/ ˈ h ɛ l i ər /; Jèrriais: Saint Hélyi; French: Saint-Hélier) is the capital of Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands in the English Channel.It is the most populous of the twelve parishes of Jersey, with a population of 35,822, [4] over one-third of the island's total population.

The population of Jersey has grown in each census record since 1931 (although those did not include records during the Occupation by Nazi Germany ).

The primary suburban areas of St Helier consist of the Five Oaks area in St Saviour, and developments along the coast, primarily along main roads to east and west of the town. The south and east coasts from St Aubin to Gorey are largely urbanised, with only small gaps in their development, such as the Royal Golf Course in Grouville.
St Heliers is a seaside suburb of Auckland with a population of 11,710 as of June 2024. [2] This suburb is popular amongst visitors for the beaches, cafés, and views of Rangitoto Island , the distinctive volcanic island in the Hauraki Gulf .

Saint Thomas Church's spire is prominent in Saint Helier skyline. Today, Jersey is under the diocese of Portsmouth. There are eight Catholic churches on the island. [5] However, there is a shortage of priests and workers and the Catholic Church there has therefore had to close two chapels [6] and sell some of its churches. [7] [8]
