British Weight Lifting (BWL) is a trading name of the British Weight Lifters' Association Ltd (BWLA), [1] [2] the National Governing Body (NGB) in the United Kingdom for the sports of weightlifting and para powerlifting. [3] The Association was initially established in 1910.
Weightlifting is one of the sports at the quadrennial Commonwealth Games competition. It has been a Commonwealth Games sport since 1950. It is a core sport and must be included in the sporting programme of each edition of the Games.
The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships are an international weightlifting competition, open to countries of the Commonwealth of Nations. [1] They are usually held every non-Commonwealth Games year under the auspices of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation (often combined with associated continental championships) and serve as a qualifying tournament for the Games themselves.
