The Kisumu Power Station, also Kisumu One Solar Power Station, is a 40 MW (54,000 hp) solar power plant under development in Kenya. It is owned by Ergon Solair Africa (ESA), based in Nairobi, Kenya. ESA is a subsidiary of Ergon Solair PBC, an American independent power producer , headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, United States.
The three investors in the project formed a special purpose vehicle company to develop, construct, and operate the solar power station. The SPV company is called Rumuruti Solar Generation Holding. The SPV company is registered in the United Kingdom. The ownership of the SPV company is as illustrated in the table below: [1] [6]

The power station has a 52 megawatt capacity. Its output is planned to be sold directly to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company for integration into the national grid. It is expected most of the power generated will be consumed locally, in an area with increasing energy demand, limited energy supply and an expanding population.
Kenya has one of the highest household solar ownership rate in the world. [27] More Kenyans are turning to solar power due to relatively high connectivity costs to the grid and the abundance of solar power in Kenya. [28] Solar photovoltaic systems are particularly prevalent among rural households with limited access to grid electricity. [27]
The power generated will be sold to Kenya Power and Lighting for integration into the national grid. [4] In February 2018, the Business Daily Africa, reported that the expected commissioning of this power plant had been pushed back to December 2018, following delays. Kenya has ambitions to electrify 100 percent of the country's population, up from 70 percent in 2017. This development and the 55 megawatts Garissa Solar Power Station, owned by Kenya Rural Electrification Authority, are aimed to diversify Kenya electricity sources, given the unpredictability of hydro-power in this East African country.
The power station is located on the main campus of Kenyatta University, who own the power station. This is located along the Thika Highway, about 19 kilometres (12 mi), by road, north-east of the central business district of the city of Nairobi , Kenya's capital and largest city. [ 2 ]
