<p>Phi Beta Kappa is an honorary society that juniors or seniors can be inducted into. You need to demonstrate academic excellence and academic depth. It generally amounts to ~17 A’s in your 1st 5 semesters at Brown, if you are a junior. Very few juniors (~20-30) get inducted, many more seniors are inducted each year.</p>

But your question whether Phi Kappa Phi membership is redundant to your GPA is a good one. Phi Kappa Phi (and PBK for that matter) invite primarily by class rank (top 10%, for example).
