Upon the restoration of the Philippine Commonwealth in 1945 the province retained its pre-war lone congressional district. Bukidnon was represented in the Interim Batasang Pambansa as part of Region X from 1978 to 1984, and returned two representatives, elected at-large, to the Regular Batasang Pambansa in 1984.
It is situated between the two growth centers of the province, Manolo Fortich and the City of Malaybalay. It is accessible by land transportation and vehicles plying the Cagayan de Oro and Malaybalay/Valencia routes passing through the eight kilometer stretch of the National Sayre Highway , which traverses the municipality's area.
Metro Cagayan de Oro is bounded by Macajalar Bay, which curves north.Forty percent of its area is elevated plains, located partially in Bukidnon.In the western portion the Cagayan de Oro River [5] outlines the area, which is divided by the river's tributaries from district 1 of Cagayan de Oro to Gitagum (including Laguindingan, Alubijid, El Salvador and Opol).
Kitaotao is situated in the southern part of Bukidnon. It lies in the 124°24’ east longitude and 7°40’ to 7°39 south longitude. It is bounded in the north by the municipalities of Don Carlos, Quezon and San Fernando; and the municipalities of Kadingilan, Dangcagan, and Kibawe in the west; and then the province of North Cotabato in the south and Davao City in the east.
It consists of the municipalities of Baungon, Libona, Malitbog, Manolo Fortich, Sumilao and Talakag. [4] Prior to redistricting in 2012, the district stretched further south to include the municipalities of Kalilangan and Pangantucan. [5]
