Madshus is one of the world's oldest ski manufacturer. The first Madshus skis were produced by Martin Madshus in 1906 in a barn in Vardal near Gjøvik. The company was moved to Lillehammer in 1936, and then to Biri in 1972. In 1988, the factory was bought by K2 Sports Inc, but the skis are still produced at Biri.
Production was in Skåne in Sweden and in Fjellhamar near Oslo, Norway. [1] By 1964 all production had been moved to Norway. In 1974, Swix bought Liljedahls Skistavfabrikk in Lillehammer, bringing the brand under the Swix name and becoming a leading ski pole manufacturer. Swix was bought by Ferd in 1978.

Rønning Treski is the only remaining producer of wood skis in Norway. [1] The production takes place in the small town of Skotterud, located in the municipally of Eidskog. Wood skis have been produced for over 100 years at the location. [2] In 1936, Paul Rønning bought the company, rebranded it, and decided to focus on producing skis.
