The Clean Air Act of 1963 (CAA) was passed as an extension of the Air Pollution Control Act of 1955, encouraging the federal government via the United States Public Health Service under the then-Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) to encourage research and development towards reducing pollution and working with states to establish their own emission reduction programs.
This is a list of U.S. states and territories by carbon dioxide emissions for energy use, [1] [2] as well as per capita [3] [4] and by area. [5] The state with the highest total carbon dioxide emissions is Texas and the lowest is Vermont. The state with the highest per capita carbon dioxide emissions is Wyoming and the lowest is New York.
Temperatures in Illinois are projected to rise over the course of the 21st century. The amount of increase depends on how much humans curtail their CO 2 emissions. If humans continue to emit at current levels, the increase will be between 8 and 14 °F (4.4 and 7.8 °C). If emissions are lowered, the rise will be between 4 and 9 °F (2.2 and 5 °C).
Environmental regulations in developed countries have reduced the individual vehicle's emission. However, this has been offset by an increase in the number of vehicles, and increased use of each vehicle (an effect known as the Jevons paradox). [3] Some pathways to reduce the carbon emissions of road vehicles have been considerably studied. [5]
Köppen climate types of Illinois (with counties overlaid), using 1991-2020 climate normals. The Climate of Illinois describes the weather conditions, and extremes, noted within the state of Illinois, United States, over time. Because of its nearly 400-mile (640 km) length and mid-continental location, Illinois has a widely
The N.C. Division of Air Quality will ask the U.S. EPA to approve a plan to end annual emissions inspections in 18 of the 19 counties where it is still required.
Many of these programs are administered on the local and county level. For example, the Clean Air Car Check is a vehicle emissions-testing program for all vehicles registered in Lake and Porter counties in Indiana. The two counties were designated as non-attainment areas for ozone levels in 1977 by the Environmental Protection Agency.
