Sir Martin John Gilbert CBE FRSL (25 October 1936 – 3 February 2015) [1] [2] was a British historian and honorary Fellow of Merton College, Oxford.He was the author of 88 books, including works on Winston Churchill, the 20th century, and Jewish history including the Holocaust.
Fori Nehru met Martin Gilbert in 1958. [2] He was a friend of her son Ashok, from university days, and later historian and official biographer of Winston Churchill. [2] When Gilbert arrived at the Nehru home that year he was unwell, and he later recounted that she successfully nursed him to recovery with rice and yoghurt. [2]
The Churchill family controls many of the documents and has authorized an 8-volume official biography. It was started by his son Randolph Churchill (1911–1968) and finished after his death by Martin Gilbert (1936–2015), a scholar at Oxford. It included "Companion volumes" filled with original sources.

An important step in Taylor's "rehabilitation" was a festschrift organised in his honour by Martin Gilbert in 1965. He was honoured with two more festschriften , in 1976 and 1986. The festschriften were testaments to his popularity with his former students as receiving even a single festschrift is considered to be an extraordinary and rare honour.
Andrew Roberts, Baron Roberts of Belgravia, FRSL FRHistS [2] (born 13 January 1963), [3] is an English popular historian, journalist and member of the House of Lords. His late wife, Veronica Palmer collaborated on several of his books. The historian Martin Gilbert was a pupil of Palmer's at Highgate, and contributed a foreword to a 2003 reprinting of his book Napoleon in Russia stating: "Alan Palmer is one of my favourite historians. I have read all his thirty plus books, and have learned from them all.
