The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is a national exam for students in grades 8-12. It's used to shortlist students for HBCSE's Mathematical Olympiad program. Students must be under 20 years old by June 30 of the IMO year and cannot have passed Class 12.
The problems chosen are from various areas of secondary school mathematics, broadly classifiable as geometry, number theory, algebra, and combinatorics. They require no knowledge of higher mathematics such as calculus and analysis, and solutions are often elementary. However, they are usually disguised so as to make the solutions difficult.
The program was renamed to National Talent Search Scheme with the NTSE examination now being conducted for classes X, XI, and XII. Can we imagine ourselves back on that awful day in the summer of 2010, in the hot firefight that went on for nine hours?
