The Laponian area is a large mountainous wildlife area in the Lapland province in northern Sweden, more precisely in Gällivare Municipality, Arjeplog Municipality and Jokkmokk Municipality. The name comes from the Latin name for Lapland.
Lapland, also known by its Swedish name Lappland (Northern Sami: Sápmi, Finnish: Lappi, Latin: Lapponia), is a province in northernmost Sweden. It borders the Swedish provinces of Jämtland, Ångermanland, Västerbotten, and Norrbotten, as well as Norway and Finland. Nearly a quarter of Sweden's land area is in Lappland.
Saariselkä village is located in the area and belongs to the Inari municipality, about 300 meters (980 ft) above sea level. Kaunispää-fell, rising next to the village, is 438 meters (1,437 ft) high. [3] Many couples want to have a "white wedding" in Lapland in the winter when there is snow everywhere.
It begins at the shores of Torneträsk, one of Sweden's largest lakes where the village of Abisko is located, and extends some 15 km (9.3 mi) to the south-west. It is situated about 195 km (121 mi). north of the Arctic Circle. The area of the park is 77 km 2 (30 sq mi)

A white line denoting the Arctic Circle (at its position in 1865) is painted across the park. Visitors officially enter the Arctic area when they cross the line. The line is a trendy photo spot for visitors. The Arctic Circle is actually 700 meters to the north, just south of the Rovaniemi airport.)
