Allison is a city in, and the county seat of, Butler County, Iowa, United States. [3] The population was 966 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ] Allison is home to the Butler County Fair. [ 5 ]
Clarksville was the first county seat, from 1854 to 1860, after which Butler Center became the seat. Because locals became disenchanted with Butler Center (partially because of its inaccessibility during the winter), Allison was made the county seat on January 10, 1881, after the tracks of the Dubuque and Dakota Railroad had been laid there.

The Butler County Courthouse is located at 428 Sixth Street in Allison, Iowa, United States. It opened in 1975 and replaced a structure originally measuring 50 by 55 feet (15 m × 17 m) completed in 1881 when the county seat relocated from Clarksville to Allison. [1] The 1881 courthouse was enlarged in 1903 and again in 1937. [2]
