Compaq Presario 425 all-in-one (1993) In September 1993, Compaq introduced the Compaq Presario brand of IBM PC–compatible computers as the company's first foray into the retail computer market with the release of three models: the all-in-one 400 series, the horizontal desktop 600 series, and the tower-based 800 series.
It was succeeded, as with other HPCs manufactured by Compaq and HP, by the iPAQ line of Pocket PCs. The C series featured an integrated 33.6 kbit/s modem. [1] For wireless data transfer, it sported an IrDA port. An upgrade to Windows CE 2.11 could be purchased from Compaq for US$109. [3]

Under Pfeiffer's tenure as chief executive, Compaq entered the retail computer market with the Compaq Presario as one of the first manufacturers in the mid-1990s to market a sub-$1000 PC. In order to maintain the prices it wanted, Compaq became the first first-tier computer manufacturer to utilize CPUs from AMD and Cyrix .
