Mineral King is a 7.5-mile-long (12.1 km), 1-mile-wide (1.6 km) glacial valley in the southern Sierra Nevada.The valley floor lies at an elevation of 7,400 feet (2,300 m), while the granite peaks rising above the head of the valley reach heights of 11,000 feet (3,400 m) or more.
Silver City sits at an elevation of 6,732 feet (2,052 m). [2] It lies 72 km ENE of Visalia, California, within the boundary of Sequoia National Park. The 2010 United States census reported Silver City was uninhabited. [4] Silver City is the name of an inholding in Sequoia National Park located at Mile 21 on the 25-mile road to Mineral King. [5]
Can be accessed via the Mineral King Road which branches off California State Route 198 below the south entrance to Sequoia National Park. The grove is located about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of the community of Silver City and 19 miles (31 km) from the junction of highway 198. The road into this section of the park is narrow and difficult.
