Lin Walker Wheeler (1868-1944) provided $40,000 (equivalent to $709,767 in 2023) [5] for the construction of a two-story hospital in the Mediterranean Revival style. The original hospital was built on 15 acres (6.1 ha) of property on the corner of West San Carlos Street between Meridian Ave and Race Street.
