Lyon County is the most northwesterly county of the U.S. state of Iowa.As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,934. [1] The county seat is Rock Rapids. [2]Lyon County is named in honor of Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon, who served in the Mexican–American War and the Civil War. [3]
A lion couchant is located above the main entrance, and is a play on the county's name Lyon. [2] The central rotunda on the interior features an art glass skylight dome and the county seal in a mosaic of ceramic tile on the floor. Wainscoting in the main staircases and corridors is Italian marble.

Beloit is located on the banks of the Big Sioux River in northwestern Iowa just across the river from Canton, South Dakota. U.S. Route 18 is just one mile to the north in Canton. History
