A mile-long auto road and hiking trails lead to the top of Cathedral Ledge (summit elevation 1,159 ft or 353 m) with views across the Saco River Valley to the White Mountains and Kearsarge North. [3] [4] Both Cathedral Ledge and White Horse Ledge are popular for rock and ice climbing. [5] [6]
North of the high point of the notch, Crawford Brook flows more gently northwest to the Ammonoosuc River, a tributary of the Connecticut River. The notch is traversed by U.S. Route 302, which closely follows the Saco River southeast to North Conway and less closely follows the Ammonoosuc River northwest to Littleton.
The park offers 250 campsites in two campgrounds, Naples Beach and Witch Cove, each with beaches and boat ramps. Boating and swimming are also available at the day-use area in the park's east section. Other park features include hiking trails and roadway biking. [1]

To the south, the notch is drained by the Cold River, which leads via the Charles River to the Saco River, which in turn flows into the Gulf of Maine east of Saco and Biddeford. The Mad River is a small mountain stream that joins the Cold River from the west about 2 miles (3 km) south of the height of land, after dropping over Mad River Falls.
