After Gollmer moved from Badagry to Lagos, he chose James White's bamboo post at Ebute Ero as CMS's first mission post in Lagos. In 1861, a church building was erected but was burnt in a great fire that affected Lagos in 1877. On 11 December 1998, the church became a registered entity of the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria. In 1999, the Greek community handed over the parish to the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa. [1] The church was later demolished and rebuilt in 2017. [1]
