The 1988–89 WHL season was the 23rd season of the Western Hockey League (WHL), featuring fourteen teams and a 72-game regular season. Less than three years after the 1986 team bus crash that killed four players, the Swift Current Broncos put together the best season in the club's history.
The Broncos were the top team during the 1992–93 season, finishing with a league best record of 49-21-2, earning 100 points, as they won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy. Swift Current was a very high scoring club, scoring a WHL high 384 goals, while defensively, the Broncos allowed 267 goals, ranking them sixth in the sixteen team league.
In 2007, Swift Current city council approved a $14 million expansion to the Centennial Civic Centre. Construction of the hockey-curling complex was completed in fall 2007. It is home to the Swift Current Broncos ice hockey team, Home Hardware AAA Midget Legionnaires ice hockey team, and Swift Current Rampage lacrosse team.
