Norma Glasgo Reid, Lady Birley (born 28 April 1952 in Limavady, Northern Ireland) was Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of the Witwatersrand. [1] A statistician, and health service researcher, she has also held the positions of director of an academic consultancy firm, Associate Professor of the University of Ulster, and an Honorary Professor of Sussex University.

Following the resignation of Professor Norma Reid Birley in November 2002, he became Acting Vice-Chancellor and principal of the university. [4] The University Council then shortlisted him as one of the possible candidates for the position of vice-chancellor, and on 19 May 2003 he was appointed vice-chancellor by the council.

Thomas M. Reid was born to Norma and Tony Reid in a snowstorm in the mountains of Fort Collins, Colorado, two days before the Christmas of 1966. [2] He spent the first two years of his life living in Colorado and Virginia before the family moved back to Texas, growing up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. [2]
