[3] The word jacaranda was described in A supplement to Mr. Chambers's Cyclopædia, 1st ed., (1753) as "a name given by some authors to the tree the wood of which is the log-wood, used in dyeing and medicine" and as being of Tupi-Guarani origin, [4] [5] by way of Portuguese. The bridge links the Grafton central business district with South Grafton, and was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. [2] A parallel Balun Bindarray Bridge, located 70 metres (230 ft) east of the original bridge and initially consisting of two lanes, opened to traffic on 12 December 2019. [3] [4]

The Susan Island Nature Reserve is a protected 20-hectare (49-acre) reserve nature reserve located at the western (upstream) end of the 90ha Susan Island, a 3km long x 420m wide river island, that is located in the Clarence River, in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales in eastern Australia near the centre of Grafton.
