Mountain Hardwear was founded in 1993 in Richmond, California by a small group of former employees of Sierra Designs led by Jack Gilbert. Soon after, Mountain Hardwear's first sponsored athlete, Ed Viesturs, the first American to climb all fourteen 8,000 meter peaks, helped develop several of the company's products. [1]
Enthusiastic outdoorsman Menno van Wyck liked their boots so much that he bought the One Sport line from Brenco Enterprises in 1993. As chief executive officer, Van Eyck expanded the line of boots. [2] In 1997, it was rebranded as Montrail. [3] The same year, their hiking boot Moraine was rated Best Hiking Boot in Backpacker Magazine.

The Columbia Sportswear Company is an American company that manufactures and distributes outerwear, sportswear, and footwear, as well as headgear, camping equipment, ski apparel, and outerwear accessories.
In 1981 the resort was purchased by the Snow Summit company and the name was changed to Sierra Summit before the 1982-1983 season. During this period, it was operated by Dick Kun. [ 4 ] In the spring of 2010 it was sold to Tim Cohee and the original China Peak name was restored beginning in the 2010-2011 season.
Sorel was originally a line of winter sport/work boots that were introduced in 1962 by the Kaufman Rubber Company of Kitchener, Ontario. [1] [2] They became its most successful product line.
