The former High Point Bending and Chair Company, also known as Boling Chair Company and Boling Company, is a historic factory complex located at Siler City, Chatham County, North Carolina. The complex includes the original 1908 factory building, along with brick factory buildings built about 1920 and 1948.
Maple & Co. was a British furniture and upholstery manufacturer established in 1841 which found particular success during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The company became one of the prime makers and suppliers of furniture to the aristocracy and royalty in both the United Kingdom and around the world.
The 1920s saw the company move into installing seating in movie palaces. [9] Its furniture was exhibited at the 1933 Century of Progress exhibition and at the 1964 New York World's Fair. [10] During the 1930s and 1940s Heywood-Wakefield began producing furniture using sleek designs based on French Art Deco. [11]
While production of Puritan phonographs ceased between 1922-1923, the Puritan record label lasted until the late 1920s. The Great Depression ultimately ended all phonograph and record production for the Wisconsin Chair Company. [4] Post-Depression. After Bostwick's death in 1935, Wisconsin Chair was run by Otto Moeser, a company trustee. [5]
The first results of the collaboration were three chrome-plated tubular steel chairs designed for two of his projects, The Maison la Roche in Paris and a pavilion for Barbara and Henry Church. The line of furniture was expanded for Le Corbusier's 1929 Salon d'Automne installation, 'Equipment for the Home'.
Waring's of Liverpool was founded by John Waring, who arrived in the city from Belfast in 1835 and established a wholesale cabinet making business. He was succeeded by his son Samuel James Waring who rapidly expanded the business during the 1880s, furnishing hotels and public buildings throughout Europe.
The company was founded as a housewares manufacturer in 1932 by Theodore Baumritter and his brother-in-law Nathan S. Ancell. They bought a bankrupt furniture factory in Beecher Falls, Vermont in 1936 and adopted the name "Ethan Allen" for its early-American furniture introduced in 1939, after the Vermont Revolutionary War leader Ethan Allen.
