A delta wing is a wing shaped in the form of a triangle. It is named for its similarity in shape to the Greek uppercase letter delta (Δ). Although long studied, it did not find significant applications until the Jet Age , when it proved suitable for high-speed subsonic and supersonic flight.
Joined wing: a tandem-wing layout in which the front low wing sweeps back and/or the rear high wing sweeps forwards such that they join at or near the tips to form a continuous surface in a hollow diamond or triangle shape. [7] The Ligeti Stratos is a rare example. [8] Rhomboidal wing: a
Major differences included the delta wing shape and tail-less design. Plans called for the elimination of flight control surfaces . Yaw, pitch and roll authority would be accomplished through thrust-vectoring , possibly by modifying the extant 2-D vectoring nozzles of the F-22.
Four basic configurations which have used vortex lift are, in chronological order, the 60-degree delta wing; the ogive delta wing with its sharply-swept leading edge at the root; the moderately-swept wing with a leading-edge extension, which is known as a hybrid wing; and the sharp-edge forebody, or vortex-lift strake. [7]
A variable-sweep wing, colloquially known as a "swing wing", is an airplane wing, or set of wings, that may be modified during flight, swept back and then returned to its previous straight position. Because it allows the aircraft's shape to be changed, it is a feature of a variable-geometry aircraft.

In the close-coupled delta wing canard, the foreplane is located just above and forward of the wing. The vortices generated by a delta-shaped foreplane flow back past the main wing and interact with its own vortices. Because these are critical for lift, a badly-placed foreplane can cause severe problems.
The delta wing of the P.111 was relatively thin in comparison to contemporary wings and was swept at an angle of 45°. [4] When not fitted with tip extensions, this wing was strongly cropped at about 75 percent of the pure delta shape, while the installation of the larger extensions resulted in an almost unbroken pure delta shape.
