Pomeroy (/ ˈ p ʌ m r ɔɪ / PUM-roy [4]) is a village in and the county seat of Meigs County, Ohio, United States, [5] along the Ohio River about 21 miles (34 km) south of Athens. The population was 1,573 at the 2020 census .
Meigs County (/ ˈ m ɛ ɡ z / MEGZ [2]) is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,210. [3] Its county seat is Pomeroy. [4] The county is named for Return J. Meigs Jr., the fourth Governor of Ohio. [5]
Charles Schorn (1 May 1842 - 25 March 1915) was a bugler in the United States Army who was awarded the Medal of Honor for gallantry during the American Civil War.Schorn was awarded the medal on 3 May 1865 for actions performed at the Battle of Appomattox Courthouse on 8 April 1865.
