The North Shore is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in the Algoma District.The township had a population of 497 in the Canada 2016 Census.It is along the north shore of the North Channel of Lake Huron (hence its name), with its main communities all along Highway 17.
Georgian Bay has been known by several names. To the Ojibwe, it is known as "Spirit Lake".To the Huron-Wendat, it is known as Lake Attigouatan. Samuel de Champlain, the first European to explore and map the area in 1615–1616, called it "La Mer douce" (the sweet/calm/fresh sea), which was a reference to the bay's freshwater. [1]
It is located on the southeast shore of its namesake, Lake Huron, in the southwest part of the province. The county seat is Goderich, also the county's largest community. The population reported in the 2021 Census for this predominantly agricultural area with many villages and small towns was 61,366 in a land area of 3,398 square kilometres. [1]

Formerly called Huron, it was renamed in 1860 to mark the visit by the then Prince of Wales, later Edward VII. It was incorporated in 1879. [3] In the Canada 2016 Census, the population of Point Edward was 2,037, an increase of 0.1 percent from its 2011 population of 2,034. In the summer of 2003, Point Edward celebrated its 125th anniversary.
St. Joseph Island is in the northwestern part of Lake Huron.It is part of the Canadian province of Ontario.At 365 km 2 (141 sq mi) in area, it is the sixth largest lake island in the world; the second largest island on Lake Huron, following Manitoulin Island; and the third largest of all the islands on the Great Lakes, trailing Manitoulin and Lake Superior's Isle Royale.
