A Trick of the Tail is the seventh studio album by English progressive rock band Genesis.It was released on 13 February 1976 on Charisma Records and was the first album to feature drummer Phil Collins as lead vocalist following the departure of Peter Gabriel.
"A Trick of the Tail" was the third Genesis song to be accompanied by a promotional video, and the first single featuring Phil Collins as the band's lead vocalist. Previously their drummer, frequently singing backing vocals, Collins was now the band's lead singer, while continuing to play drums and percussion.
Genesis survived Gabriel's departure in 1975, with Collins taking over as lead singer, releasing the top three album A Trick of the Tail the following year. [8] Hackett left in 1977, reducing the group to a trio of Banks, Rutherford and Collins.
