The painted bat (Kerivoula picta) or painted wooly bat [2] is a species of vesper bat in the family Vespertilionidae. It is also known as "butterfly bat" ( projapoti badur ), [ 3 ] "rongin chamchika" (coloured bat) or "komola-badami chamchika" (orange-brown bat) in Bengali .
They range in size from the least woolly bat, at 2 cm (1 in) plus a 2 cm (1 in) tail, to the Kachin woolly bat, at 6 cm (2 in) plus a 7 cm (3 in) tail. Like all bats, kerivoulines are capable of true and sustained flight , and have wing lengths ranging from 2 cm (1 in) to 5 cm (2 in).
Kerivoula depressa was initially described by American zoologist Gerrit Smith Miller Jr. The holotype had been collected near Taungoo, Myanmar by Leonardo Fea.
