With a length of 46 kilometres (29 mi), the river originates in the Sierra Madre [2] and passes through the Peñablanca Protected Landscape and Seascape, [1] with large karst formations, underground chambers, and rare wild flora, before entering the Cagayan River in Tuguegarao, Cagayan. [2]
The Peñablanca park is situated just 24 kilometres (15 mi) east of Cagayan's provincial capital of Tuguegarao and some 580 kilometres (360 mi) north of Manila. It extends along the northern Sierra Madre range from the Twin Peaks south to Mount Cetaceo towards the border with Isabela.
Most interesting spot is the mouth of the Pamplona River. It saw history in the making for it was the starting point of Salcedo and his conquistadores when they explored Cagayan in 1572.
