InterCity services have been operated by 22000 Class DMUs since December 2007, the Dublin-Sligo route being the first in the whole of Ireland to get the new trains. Longford is approximately 91 kilometres (57 mi) from Sligo and 122 kilometres (76 mi) from Dublin. Journeys to the capital by rail generally take about an hour and three quarters.
