Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (IATA: CVG, ICAO: KCVG, FAA LID: CVG) is a public international airport located in Boone County, Kentucky, United States, around the community of Hebron. The airport serves the Cincinnati tri-state area.
The second was a Carrier Air Group which was established in 1945 as CVG-153, it was redesignated CVAG-15 on 15 November 1946, then again redesignated as CVG-15 on 1 September 1948 and disestablished on 1 December 1949.
The first CVG-9 was established on 1 Mar 1942, and disestablished 15 Oct 1945. The second was established as CVG-20 on 15 Oct 1943, was redesignated CVAG-9 on 15 Nov 1946 and CVG-9 (the second use of the designation) on 1 Sep 1948. It was disestablished on 1 Dec 1949. Neither of these two Air Groups share a lineage with Carrier Air Wing Nine. [9]

Originally established as CVBG-74 (Battle Air Group) on 1 May 1945, it was renamed CVBG-1 on 15 November 1946 before finally being renamed CVG-2 in 1948. [2] During that time, CVG-2 was assigned to USS Midway (CVB-41). CVG-2 later would see action during the Korean War on board the Essex-class carriers USS Boxer, Valley Forge and Philippine Sea.
On 1 September 1948 the Navy again changed the carrier air group designation scheme; all CVAGs and CVBGs were designated CVGs and CVAG-3 once again became CVG-3. On 20 December 1963 all carrier air groups in existence were redesignated Carrier Air Wings (CVW) and Carrier Air Group 3 (CVG-3) was redesignated Carrier Air Wing 3 (CVW-3) [ 2 ]

In four months of flying. CVG-11 lost over 50 aircraft and had more than 60 men killed, missing-in-action or wounded. Air Group Eleven was replaced by Air Group Seventeen on 1 February 1945. They arrived back in Alameda on 24 February 1945. For these operations, CVG-11 was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. [4]
