Taxi is an American television sitcom that originally aired on ABC from September 12, 1978, to May 6, 1982, and on NBC from September 30, 1982, to June 15, 1983. It focuses on the everyday lives of a handful of New York City taxi drivers and their abusive dispatcher.
The cabbies meet Reverend Jim at a restaurant, and get him a job as a cab driver. Jim then spreads his special brand of reality around the garage. In 1997, TV Guide ranked this episode #63 on its list of the 100 Greatest Episodes. [2] In 2009, it moved to #51. [3]
Jim appeared again in Season 2, Episode 3, "Reverend Jim: A Space Odyssey" in which he was first hired as a driver after drugging Louie De Palma, the head dispatcher (played by Danny DeVito). He became a regular on the show by episode 10. As the series progressed, the "Reverend" aspect of the character was less frequently mentioned.
