Si Tanka/Huron University was notified in February 2002 that its accreditation had been approved by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Due to financial difficulties, Si Tanka University was closed in 2006. The accreditation was subsequently withdrawn effective August 6, 2006. [1]

2005 – Si Tanka–Huron left the DAC after the school was declared to cease operations after the 2004–05 academic year. 2006 – Mary left the DAC to join the Division II ranks of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) after the 2005–06 academic year.

Ralph John Lundeen (May 3, 1917 – March 30, 2004) was an American football and basketball coach. He served as the head football coach at Huron College—later known as Huron University—in Huron, South Dakota from 1950 to 1953, and Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota from 1957 to 1958. [1]
Huron High School's mascot is the "Tigers". 2022-2023 enrollment is approximately 2900 students. It was the home of Si Tanka University (formerly Huron College) from 1883 to 2005. Huron is also home to a Catholic elementary school called Holy Trinity School, and a private non-denomination K-12 School, James Valley Christian School.
