TV4 (TV fyra) is a Swedish free-to-air television network owned by TV4 AB, a subsidiary of the TV4 Media AB. It started broadcasting by satellite in 1990 and, since 1992, on terrestrial television. In 1994, TV4 became the largest channel and remained so for a number of years.
Many such channels don't broadcast from Sweden, but nevertheless target a Swedish audience. TV4 is the only commercial channel ever to have broadcast nationally in the Swedish analogue terrestrial network, but the arrival of digital terrestrial television saw the TV4 monopoly on commercial television broken.
The TV4 HD channel launched on the Canal Digital satellite and Com Hem cable television platform on 28 May 2007. The first high-definition programme was 24, followed by other series such as Robin Hood, Ghost Whisperer, Numbers and Lost in the first month.
